Guzman y Gomez are a nation-wide chain of authentic Mexican
taquerias created in 2006 by BWD for an American restaurateur, Steven
Marks, who wanted to bring the first authentic, cheap and funky Mexican
chain of true taquerias to Australia. Sitting somewhere between a
fast-food takeaway and a sit-down experience the brief was to create
something unique but with a hint of the shambolic roadside Mexican food
stalls, along with a funky branding by The Creative Method, and a sense
of it being in Australia and for Australian tastes.
The first location in Newtown, Sydney, was wildly
successful. Over the past 7 years Guzman y Gomez has spread across
Australia to 40 locations and also to Asia with its first international
location opening in Singapore in 2013. The style and size of the
restaurants has wildly expanded and evolved and GYG now has a huge and
very loyal following.
